Adams, William Jr.  -  December 12, 1996

Mr. William F. Adams Jr., 79, of Gulfport, died Thursday, Dec.12, 1996, in Gulfport.

Mr. Adams was born in Pass Christian and was a lifelong resident of the Coast. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gulfport and the Scrap Iron Bible Class. He was a graduate of Pass Christian High School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. Mr. Adams was a third generation florist, active in the business since 1935, and was Chairman of the Board and past president of Adams Flower, Inc. He was a recipient of the Mississippi "Florist of the Year" Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mr. Adams was a member of Gulfport Lodge No. 422 F&M, Gulfport Elks Lodge No. 978, The Scottish Rite Bodies, Gulfport Commandery No. 38 K.T., the Joppa Shrine, Joe Graham Post American Legion Post No. 119, Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 2539. He was also a member of the Tennessee Mississippi Sheriff's and Peace Officers Assn., MS Peace Officers Association and the Gulfport Yacht Club. He was named the Outstanding Young Man by the Gulfport Jaycees and the Outstanding Member of the Young Men's Business Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. and Loraine Robinson Adams Sr. and two brothers, D. Howard Adams and John R. Adams.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lena Florence Adams of Gulfport; two sons, William "Bert" Adams of Gulfport, and John S. Adams of Pass Christian; a sister, Emma Lou Goodwin of Gulfport; and two grandchildren.
