Ray, Charles E.  -  May 4, 1998

Charles Edwin Ray, 73, of Bay St. Louis, died Monday, May 4, 1998, in New Orleans.

Mr. Ray was a native of Burkburnett, Texas, and was a retired Captain in the U. S. Navy where he served 32 years of active duty. He was designated a Naval Aviator April 18, 1945, and also served in command of an F8 Squadron, lll-Sundowners. He served as Chief of Staff of the Naval Reserve in NewOrleans and commanded three ships, the USS Nitro, the USS Severn and the USS Alstede. He received four Air Medals Navy Commendation Medals,with Combat V and various other campaign and service medals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Mogie Hauser Ray.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Marie Heise Ray of Bay St. Louis; two sons, Gregory Ray of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Scott Ray of San Francisco, Calif,; and two grandchildren.

Visitation was Saturday at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, followed by a memorial service in the funeral home chapel.

The family prefers memorials to the American Heart Association.
