Rutherford, James J.  -  September 7, 1999

James J. Rutherford, 52, of Bay St. Louis died Tuesday, Sept 7, 1999 in Bay St. Louis.

Mr. Rutherford was a native and lifelong resident of Bay St. Louis. He was employed by GE Plastics as a chemical technician for 18 l-2 years. He was a member of Our lady of the Gulf Catholic church in Bay St. Louis and was councilman-at-large for the City of Bay St. Louis for 10 l-2 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 139, Masonic Lodge 429, both of Bay St. Louis and a member of the Mississippi Municipal Association. For many years he was active in the Boy Scouts of America and the American Red Cross Blood Bank. He was also active in many civic, charitable and fund-raising organizations. Mr. Rutherford was of one-fourth Choctaw Indian ancestry.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary W. Ruherford. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Monti Rutherford of Bay St. Louis; two sons, Thomas J. Rutherford and Michael J. Rutherford, both of Bay St. Louis; his father John D. Rutherford,Jr. of Bay St. Louis; two brothers, J. D. Rutherford III of Bay St. Louis and Jeffery Rutherford of Waveland; and two sisters, Jeannie R. Moran and Jan M. Rutherford, both of Bay St. Louis.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated Wednesday aat Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis. Private interment wil be held at a later date.

Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis is in charge of arrangements.
