Smallwood, Myrtle G.  -  August 28, 1999

Myrtle Grace Rhodes Smallwood, 86, of Bay St. Louis, died Saturday, August 28, 1999 in Bay St. Louis.

Mrs. Smallwood, retired president of Gulf View Haven, Inc., was born in Biloxi and lived in Bay St. Louis for 53 years. She graduated from Bay High School and Kings Daughters and Sons Hospital School of Nursing at Gulfport. She was a registered nurse, taught nursing at Kings Daughters and held vaious administative supervisory and consulting positions in hospitals and longterm care facilities on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She was a member of the Mississippi and American Health Care Associaton and was a Fellow in the American College of Long-term Care Administrators. She was a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay ST. Louis.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Edgar Woods Santa Cruz, M.D,, and David Wiseman Smallwood; her parents, Joseph William and Sarah Balius Rhodes, seven brothers, Joseph Williams Rhodes, Jr., Henry William Rhodes, Charles John Rhodes, Charles Earl Rhodes, Walter Chester Rhodes, Nelius Carroll Rhodes and John Stafford Rhodes; and three sisters, Olivia Julia Rhodes, Gertrude Odile Rhodes Alley and Henrietta Gertrude Rhodes Cook.

Survivors include a son, Edgar Woods Santa Cruz, Jr of Bay St. Louis; a brother, Willys Wilford Rhodes of Bay St. Louis; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Batman of Beaumont, Texas and two grandsons, Edgar Woods Santa Cruz III of New Orleans and John Randall Santa Cruz of Bay St. Louis and seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service wa conducted Tuesday at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. Private graveside services will be conducted at a later date.

Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis is in charge of arrangements.
