Bourgeois, Arsene Luc  -  September 1, 1906

MOTHER OF MAYOR OF WAVELAND PASSED AWAY SATURDAY AFTERNOON

The death of Mrs. Severen Bourgeois, nee Arsene Luc, occurred Saturday at 3 P. M. at the home of her son, Hon. O. M. Bourgeois. Surrounded by her children and fortified by her faith in the Catholic church, of which she was a faithful member, her gentle spirit yielded itself to its Maker.

Mrs. Bourgeois had been paralyzed for five years, during which time she had severe spells of illness, and at times her life was despaired of. Her last sickness was of a week's duration; her suffering was intense, and all that loving care and devotion could do were done for her. Relatives and friends were in constant attendance on her. Her death will fall hardest on her youngest daughter, whose labor of love ceased only at her death. Many have cause to remember the dear old lady's acts of charity. She had twelve children (five of them now dead), forty-eight grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. Her funeral took place Sunday afternoon at 3 P. M. Service was held at the Church of Our Lady of the Gulf by the Rev. Father Husser, who spoke of her life and Christian death and the example she set for her children. Mrs. Bourgeois was 78 years of age and a widow 12 years.

Her funeral was one of the largest ever held in Waveland. The pall bearers were the Hon. Frank J. Ladner, F. C. Bordages, Jules Favre, Sebastian Guardia, John S. Bourgeois, and Andrew Zimmerman.

Mrs. Bourgeois' children are Joseph Bourgeois; the Hon. F. A. Bourgeois, mayor of Slidell, LA; Mrs. Joseph Perronne; Camille A. Bourgeois; Louis S. Bourgeois, member of the Board of Supervisors; Olus M. Bourgeois, mayor of Waveland; and Miss Arsene Bourgeois.

The Echo deeply sympathizes with the bereaved relatives.
