Ulman, Hon. Jas. A.  -  July 26, 1893

Bay St. Louis mourns the death of one of its kind, generous and most valued citizens in the person of Hon. Jas. A. Ulman, ex-mayor of this city. The inevitable came at 9 o'clock p.m., Wednesday, July 26th, at his home on Front street. Mr. Ulman took almost suddenly ill some three weeks ago, but in spite of all the tender cares and nursing he succumbed to final sleep in his 74th year, leaving three daughters and one son, other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his loss.

The deceased resided in this city for over a half century and was closely identified with the city's prosperity and held the office of mayor several terms. As mayor he was regarded as without a peer and no one has held the reigns of the city better than he.

Mr. Ulman was a member (honorary) of the Independent Hope, Hook and Ladder Fire Co., and for a number of years worshipful master of the Bay St. Louis lodge.

The funeral proceeded from his late residence Thursday evening at 4 o'clock to the Main Street Methodist church, Rev. N.B. Harmon officiating. The funeral was attended by the members of the Independent Hope Hook and Ladder Fire Co. and by a large number of friends and acquaintances. The Echo extends sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
