Vegas, Carol P.  -  January 9, 1936

Carol Peteson Vegas, 64, was born in Oakland, CA, on January 9, 1936, and lived in Bay St. Louis since April 1963. She passed away late Sunday , April 9, 2000, of leukemia-related complications in Gulfport.

She was preceded by her parents, Arvid A. Peterson and Elsie Willmott Peterson Wahl.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 44 years, Paul L. Vegas of Bay St. Louis; two daughters, Holly Vegas of Latham, N.Y., and Virginia Vegas Reynolds of Sharon, CT; two sons, Hunter Vegas of Kernersville, N.C., and Michael Vegas of Johannesburg, South Africa; and six grandchildren.

Even though Mrs. Vegas' first priority was the love, caring and support of each of her family members, she spent the balance of her lifetime in various fields of volunteerism.

Her services included missionary work with primitive Indians from Guatemala and the Peruvian Amazon rainforest, beautification committees and highwasy landscaping in Bay St. Louis and Hancock County, designing rose windows, Tree of Life for the Harriet Center and building plans for her beloved Christ Episcopal Church to promoting of wild flowers in Georgia.

Mrs. Vegas devoted her life to fulfil projects that promoted goodness and improvement in the human condition, and as such people and their enviorments always benefited from her involvement. Even during her years of illness and chemotherapy, she would always compliment and support her caregivers and her fellow cancer patients.

She was recognized with several awards during her lifetime, but all who knew and love her would tell you that her greatest reward was in helping others. She will be missed and always remembered.

Visitaion will be Sunday April 16 from l p.m. to 2 p.m. in Virginia Hall of Christ Episcopal Church, Bay St. Louis.

A memorial sercice will be conducted Sunday, April 6, 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Bay St. Louis.

Edmond Fahey Funeral Home, Bay St. Louis, is in charge of arrangements.
