Death by Drowning

The following account of the drowning of Mr. Joseph Valari was handed for publication:

Tuesday night at 9 o'clock, two sailors, one from the schooner Sara T. Keel, the other from the Gus Simpson came from Pass Christian under the influence of liquor. The one from the schooner Gus Simpson named Joseph Valari, an Italian, stated to the captain that he was to drown himself but was then prevented by the crew from doing so. He undressed himself to go to bed, but was soon out, jumped overboard and disappeared in the swift current in the mouth of the Wolf river. Joseph has no family here and was 29 years of age.
