Hemmersbach, Prof. P. J.  -  October 5, 1900

Prof. P. J. Hemmersbach died last night at about half past eight o'clock, after an illness of ten days from acute Bright's disease. His wife and only child, a 9-year old boy, arrived at his bedside from their home in Louisville yesterday morning. Prof. Jno. A. Hemmersbach, who had been spending the summer in Europe, arrived about one hour previous to the demise of his brother.

Prof P. J. Hemmersbach was born in Germany 36 years ago. He was an instructor of music and a finished pianist, graduating from the Conservatory of Music at Cologne.

A mass of requiem for the repose of his soul was had at the church of Our Lady of the Gulf eight o'clock this morning, and the funeral took place at 11 o'clock. The remains were embalmed and shipped at one o'clock to Louisville for interment in the family burial plot.

Besides the relatives mentioned above, several brothers are living, one a priest at Cincinnati and the others all musicians. Prof. P. J. Hemmersbach was in every sense a good man and much beloved by all who knew him. Such men as he better mankind.
