EX-TULANE GREAT PRICE DEAD AT 54

Eddie Price, former Tulane University All-American running back, died around 8 p.m. Saturday in his home of a heart attack. He was 54.

Mr. Price, who was born in Algiers, lived in New Orleans for most of his life.

In 1942, he played for Warren Easton High School where the Eagles took the state football championship. After graduation in 1943, he was drafted into the Navy and spent two years in the South Pacific, participating in three major landings.

When Mr. Price returned to New Orleans, he enrolled at Tulane University. With the Green Wave, he set many records, including most yardage gained in a single game. In 1948, Mr. Price led the Greenies to victory over Louisiana State University--only one of two wins over the arch rivals in the last 30 years. He was named All-American in 1949 and All-Southeastern Conference in 1948-49.

After Tulane, Mr. Price was drafted by the New York Giants where he played from 1950-55. He was a four-time All-Pro with the Giants and retired as the Giants' all-time leading rusher.

After finishing his football career, Mr. Price dabbled in a variety of occupations. He worked as athletic director for the New Orleans Athletic Club as special promotion director for the American Brewing Co., and a radio sportscaster.

He also ran for public office several times. In 1961, he ran for councilman-at-large in the Democratic primary and in 1963, for lieutenant governor on the Louis Michot ticket. When he died, Mr. Price was working as a developer of Harahan Oaks subdivision.

He won several awards, including induction into both the New Orleans and the Louisiana Hall of Fame. Mr. Price was a member of the New Orleans Athletic Club, American Legion, Young Men's Business Club, New Orleans Quarterback Club and worked for the New Orleans National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Private Services will be held at The Jacob Schoen and Son Inc. funeral home, 3827 Canal St.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Joyce Prats Price; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Price Sr.; one son, three daughters, one sister, Mrs. Florian Seal; two brothers, Robert and Charles, and five grandchildren.
