A FATAL BOILER EXPLOSION

On Monday afternoon this town was visited by a terrible calamity in the shape of a boiler explosion, which fatally scalded four men, all of whom expired within eighteen hours. The victims were: Mr. Stanley Koch, the chief engineer for the Poitevent & Favre Lumber Company and Mr. Ernest Finholdt, and two colored men, Jasper Carter and Henry Smith.

Mr. Koch was one of the best citizens of this community. He was a member of the Knights of Honor and of the Masonic fraternity, and was buried with Masonic honors. His funeral, which was one of the largest ever had in Pearlington, took place from the Methodist church, Rev. George B. Galloway officiating, assited by Rev. Van Zant of Texas. All business in Pearlington and Logtown was suspended that every one might have an opportunity of attending the funeral. Mr. Koch leaves a wife and four children, his oldest daughter being absent from home on a visit to relatives in Montana.

The interment took place in the family burying ground at the old family home at Bogue Homa, about two miles from Pearlington.
