Kergosien, Horace L.  -  August 23, 1979

FORMER SHERIFF BURIED

Funeral services were Saturday for Horace L. Kergosien, 77, of Bay St. Louis who died Thursday, August 23, 1979, at his home at 122 Carroll Avenue.

Kergosien served as sheriff of Hancock county from 1940 to 1944. A retired realtor, he was born in the Fenton Community of Hancock County and had been a lifelong resident.

He was a 1920 graduate of St. Stanislaus and served three years on the school's Hall of Fame selection committee.

Kergosien was past president of the Mississippi Peace Officers Association, a past member of the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce, a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis, and a charter member of the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club and Pass Christian Golf Club.

A visitation was held Friday at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, where a rosary was recited.

A requiem Mass was celebrated Saturday at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Kergosien was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. A.A. Kergosien.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Kergosien Treutel.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mathilde Gaines Kergosien of Bay St. Louis; two sons, Gregory Gaines Kergosien of Atlanta and Phil Kergosien of Bay St. Louis; two daughters, Mrs. Helene Kergosien Vernon of Greenwood, Miss., and Mrs. Peggy Kergosien Rawley of St. Petersburg, Fla., a brother, Charles Kergosien of Hazelhurst; three sisters, Miss Clara Kergosien, Mrs. Murhl Morlan and Mrs. Hazel Blaize, all of Bay St. Louis; 25 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
