Coleman, Ray O.  -  July 31, 1996

Ray O. Coleman, 72, of Waveland, died Wednesday, July 31, 1996 in Slidell.

Mr. Coleman was born on July 13, 1924, in Sleeper, Mo.; was a graduate of Lebanon High School, Lebanon, Mo., in 1942; served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant from 1943-46 in Camp Roberts, CA, Guadalcanal, New Zeland, and new Caledonia. He attended the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Mo. the University of Louisville, KY.; was a graduate of the Southern Police Institute, SOPOAC Communication School, New Caledonia. He retired after 30 years of service with the Kansas City Police Department, he moved to Waveland, where he owned and operated Midway Industries. He was an agent for Caldwell Banker from 1989-90.

Mr. Coleman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bay St. Louis, where he served as a Deacon, then as an Elder, he was a member of the American legion Post No. 77; was Post commander of V.F.W. Police Memorial Post No. 9762 and was awarded a V.F.W. life membership for outstanding service; a member of VFW Post 3253 in Bay St. Louis; a past member of the Missouri Police Officer association; an alumni Associate of the Southern Police Institute and a past trustee of the Police Benefit Association.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie Dale and his father, Orval Coleman of Lebanon and two brothers, Carl Coleman and Lee Roy Coleman of Kansas City.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; two daughters, Cindy Worril and her husband, Roger of Slidell, and Barbara Mason of Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren; and his mother and father-in-law, Ruby and Francis Pickerill of Pass Christian.

Visitation was Saturday at the Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis.

A 2 p.m. service is scheduled today at the First Presbyterian church, where friends may call one hour before service.

Donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Bay St. Louis, MS Memorial Fund or American Heart Association
