Cuevas, George Leonard  -  July 25, 1959

George Leonard Cuevas, 68, widely known citizen died at 1 a.m. Sunday at his residence on Citizen Street.

Services were at 3 p.m.,Monday at Fahey-Whitfield Funeral Home with burial In Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Mr. Cuevas served as Hancock County tax assessor for 16 years, being in office from 1932-47, He has also served as secretary and treasurer of Peoples Federal Savings and Loan Association and as a deputy in the office of county sheriff. Prior to his political career, he taught in the Hancock County schools.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Favre Cuevas; a son Rene C. Cuevas of Las Vegas. Nev., three brothers, Franklin J., Francis and O. John Cuevas of Gulfport; four sisters, Mrs. Arzomine Cross and Mrs. Nettie Jones of Gulfport; and Mrs. Nola Nellums and Mrs. Noleen Ladner of Poplarville; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers wereT.P. Clapp, James Normand, Arthur Christy, Tom Thum, Earl Sones and Clarence Beatty. Masonic graveside rites were conducted by Jesse Gray.
