Desmond, Edward Paul Rev.  -  July 19, 1957

Paul Desmond who was well known here during his assignment at Our Lady of the Gulf Church for five years.

Father Desmond, 70, acted as chaplain at the Mercy Hospital since his transfer to Vicksburg in 1952. He died Friday after a long illness.

His only survivor is his sister, Mrs Wallace Gwin of Memphis, Tenn., where he was widely known. He was ordained on June 7, 1913, for the diocese of Nashville, Tenn.

The priest was born on Dec. 23, 1886 at Camden, N. J., and pursued his ecclesiastical studies in Pontifical College Josephinun, in Columbus, Ohio. In 1943 he was assigned to the Diocese of Natchez-Jackson.

A solemn requiem Mass was celebrated in St. Paul's Catholic Church at 10:00 a. m. on Saturday. Burial was in Cedar Hill cemetery.
