Hart, Archibald R. - May 17, 1958
A. R. Hart, 97 years of age died Saturday, May 17, in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Interment was in Cedar Rest Cemetery, Bay St. Louis, Sunday at 4:30 p. m. with Rev. Adrian Mercier officiating.
Mr. Hart is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hart came to Bay St. Louis from Gainesville, Alabama. He owned and operated the Gulfcoast Progress, in Bay St. Louis for 30 years. The paper was later sold to the late Charles G. Moreau. Mr. Hart was known and respected for his fine style of writing.
He was appointed postmaster during the administration of President Harding and served for four years. On his retirement from the post office he entered the real estate business.
For 40 years he and his wife, the former Alvina U. Hoffman lived in the home which he built on Main Street and which is now the property of the Main Street Baptist Church.
