Nelson, Edna Spears  -  January 7, 1999

Edna Spears Nelson, 101, died Thursday, Jan 7, 1999 in Bay St. Louis.

Mrs. Nelson was the widow of the late Harvey L. Nelson, a prominent Jackson insurance executive. She was a longtime communicant of St. Andrews Episcopal Cathedral in Jackson, where she served on the Altar Guild. Mrs. Nelson has resided in Deaimondhead since 1992.

Mrs. Nelson was born on Sept 26, 1997, in Osyka, Miss. Governor Kirk Fordice proclaimed Sept 26, 1997 "Edna Spears Nelson Day", in recognition of her "example of love, good citizenship and service for all Mississippians to follow." WLOX-TV in Biloxi covered Mrs. Nelson's 100th birthday party, family reunion and presentation of the Gubernatorial Citation.

She was preceded in death by Thomas and Irene Spears, Frank Spears, Harold Spears, Stella Spears Cox, Percy J. Spears, Owen Spears, Ruby Spears Dykes, Lelia Spears Lorick, Ora Spears Lain Miriam Spears Doll and Charles . Spears.

She is survived by her daughter, Faith Nelson Koger of Diamondhead; sister-in-law, Louise Nelson Boal of Madison, Miss., and Eloise Vance Spears of Clinton, Miss.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan 11, 1999 at Lake wood Memorial Park on Clinton Boulevard in Jackson. A memorial service will be held at the Diamondhead United Methodist Church at 6;30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan 14, 1999

Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis is in charge of arrangements.
