  School, BSL Colored - The Bay St. Louis colored public school will open on the 17th, instant. (SCE 10/15/1892)

 

The first public school for white children was completed in May 1893. E. B. Kirk, contractor. Cost $3,914.00. (SCEJUB42P27)

 

The mayor and Board of Aldermen, urged by Trustees of the Public Schools agreed to 9 months instead of 7 month school term this year and levied sufficient taxes to pay for extra two months. (Daily Picayune Sep. 3, 1900 VF MJS VIII 00093)

AMENDED BUDGET ACCOUNT-BAY ST. LOUIS-APRIL 30, 1976 --Bay St. Louis' nineteen fund accounts indicated a combined balance of $438,459.21 at the close of business on April 30, 1976 according to figures released today by the mayor's office.

  Of the above total $6,482.95 was on deposit in the City (General Operating) Fund; $132,901.78 in bond and interest (excepting) utility and $136,388.13 in special purpose (excepting utility) funds.

  Utility Operation and Maintenance Fund balance was $24,543.76; bond and interest (utility) funds,$108,606.05; and special purpose (utility) $29,536.55.

  Total funds on deposit in interest bearing accounts amounted to $309,174.00 or 70.51 percent of the total cash on hand. (Coast Buyers Guide - June 23, 1976)

  The sad experience of last year has induced several of the citizens of Bay St. Louis to form a society for Mutal Assistance on the same basis of such Societies formed in the large cities of our Union.

  The Motto of the Association: Charity, Faternity, Humanity; the duty of the members will be to nurse the sick, to feed the hungry and to assist with word and with deed, unfortunate widows and orphans, to the best of their ability.
