Breath, Mr. A.J., who was recently appointed sugar weigher by Collector Wilkinson, was here from St. Mary's parish, La., last Sunday on a visit to his family.  (SCE, 11-26­1893)

Breath, Charles A, home was built in 1819 by Demetry Canna on land owned by one Baptiste Favre.  (BSL 100 Yrs. pg. 57). Breath, Charley (Sr.) "The FLYING DUTCHMAN", the speedy boat of Charley Breath, while out on Tuesday evening was caught in a severe squall and upset.  Fortunately as no one was hurt or lost.  (SCE 8/6/1892)

 

The regatta at Pass Christian, Saturday last, was a success in every particular which is due to the able managers of the regatta.  Charley Breath's boat, the "MAMIE B." (formerly the "FLYING DUTCHMAN") was gaining the race of her class when the "MONTANK'S" jib collided with her sail fixtures and caused the pretty and speedy "MAMIE B." to loose her victory by upsetting.  The "MAMIE B."'s owner ought to issue a challenge for the Coast championship. One of the most pleasant wagon rides of the season was the moonlight wagon ride given by the young folks on Saturday. A band of music was in attendance and no better time could had been enjoyed.  Those present were: Misses Mamie Baron, Katie A. Reed, Edwege Saucier, Alice Baron, Vicky Breath, Lottie Cuneo, Ollie Caldwell, Miss Ducros, Messers. R. Cuneo, Chas. Breath, Alphonse J. Baron, A. Q. Breath, Robt. Maynard, Jun. S. On Monday morning Mayor Toulme held court for the case of Messers. Charles Breath and James Shansy for fast driving. Mr. Shansy was absent and consequently not tried.  Mr. Breath was imposed a fine of $2.50 and cost of court, amounting to $7.85.  (SCE/10/22/1892)

 

Capt. Charles Breath this week sold his famous fast-sailing yacht, the "MAMIE B", to Mr. E. M. Ansley.  Next spring Charley intends to have one of the finest and fastest sloops ever brought to the Bay. (SCE 11/5/1892)

SPRING PICNICS - There were the eagerly attended Spring

 

Picnics to the Breath Farm on the Jordan River ­unforgettable fun forays in which Harry S. Saucier, Charles A. Breath, and the Misses Edwige and Lydia Saucier were the sparkplugs for years.

 

  Those were the socially conscious years when you just really couldn't belong to the silk stocking crowd if you didn't play "500"  - to be shortly replaced by auction bridge, which became so suddenly and sensationally the rage that women frantically paid twenty dollars to learn and, of course, to retain their social prestige.

 

  No one played for money in those days - but card parties for beautiful prizes, usually cut glass, were the vogue. It was the custom then to collect beautiful cut glass pieces. It was a mark of social distinction. (Daily Herald 7/29/58)

Last night brought truly the social event of all events of the season in the form of a private ball, given in the spacious parlors of the Breath residence, by the members of the In For Fun club.  The affair was an "entre nons" one as, like all the club's pleasure, it was only for members with one or two invited guest.  At about 9 o'clock dancing commenced and terminated this morning.  Refreshments, etc., were frequently served.  This social affair will long remain in the memory of all present.  (SCE 9/10/1892)

 

  Mr. Moses Heidingsfeller, a commercial tourist from New Orleans, was in the Bay Tuesday, and stopped at Mrs. J. M. Breath's popular boarding house. (SCE 12/03/1892)
