Louis has not in her entire list of merchants one that is more worthy of favorable mention in this connection. This gentleman selected this place for his home twenty-one years ago, and three years later established his present business, and he has since learned that his selection was a good one, as he has enjoyed a trade seldom surpassed in cities much larger than this. He carries a most complete stock of all kinds of shelf and heavy hardware, and the well-known Monitor and famous Charter Oak stoves. His store is 40x50, and the goods artistically arranged, showing business tact and enterprise. The goods kept are all selected with care and with a view of having nothing but first-class articles to sell, and the prices charged are evidences of good goods well bought by a thorough business man.  He also keeps queensware, saddlery, paints, oils, artesian well supplies, tin roofing and tinware, and in connection with the hardware store is a complete tinshop, where is manufactured much of the fine tinware sold by Mr. Combel, and all kinds of tin repairing or new work is made to order. Mr. Combel is in receipt of a good trade, and the reasons for this is that he treats all his patrons with the same courtesy and fair dealing, and these are such as to merit the continuance of their trade from all parts of the country.

Mr. Combel is one of the well-to-do men of the city, owns the business house he occupies as well as several others, a good dwelling and a fine Gulf front. (SCE 05/20/1893)
