Rogers, Gerald Y. - May 5, 1997
Gerald Yancey Rogers, 75, of Bay St. Louis, died Monday, May 5, 1997 in Gulfport.
Mr. Rogers was born in Seguin, Texas, Dec. 15, 1921 as Gerald Bennett Burger. He officially took the name he grew up with, Rogers, in 1942. He lived in Corpus Christi, Texas until 1970 when he moved to New Orleans. He retired to Bay St. Louis in 1980.
Mr. Rogers served din the U. S. Army curing WW II. He received the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon. He was a 1939 graduate of Corpus Christi High School and a graduate of Texas A & M University, where he played on the football team. He was president and owner of Coastal Wireline Inc. in New Orleans. He also worked in the oilfield in Corpus Christi; Mr. Rogers was a member of the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Glasson Rogers; his wife, Elaine Glasson Rogers; his parents, Ruth Yancey Rogers and Gordon Rogers, his father, Walter Burger; his sister, Marian Snow; his brother, Gene Rogers, and his half-sister, Virginia Russell.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Celles Cropp of Bay St. Louis; a grandson Classon Yeager Rogers of Dallas, Texas; a granddaughter, Price Rogers Raborn, his daughter-in-law, Joneld Rogers Raborn of Houston and half-sister Betty Van Zant of San Antonio, Texas, Bevery Lackey of Albuquerque, N.M.;and Kathie Lehman of Kyle, Texas.
Visitation wisll be today 4:30-8 p.m. at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, May 11 at 3 p.m. in Corpus Christi, Texas, at Seaside Memorial Park.
