A Killing Near Logtown.
Pearlington, Miss.. July 9.--A shooting affray which ended the life of one negro occurred about six miles northeast of Logtown today at Westonia, on the Weston Lumber Company's log road. The principals were Louis Davis, steward and cook at the railroad camp, and William Norman, an employee of the railroad. Norman went into camp at noon for dinner, and Davis had no hot bread. Norman drew a pistol and demanded hot bread, whereupon Davis seized a double barrel shotgun and fired a load of buckshot into the body of Norman, which resulted in death. No arrests have been made, the belief being that the negro cook acted in self-defense.
