Strong, Louise C. Frere  -  1915

WELL-KNOWN RESIDENT OF THIS CITY EXPIRED AT HER HOME IN WASHINGTON STREET AT EARLY HOUR MONDAY MORNING.

The death of Mrs. Charles M. Strong, which occurred at the family residence on Washington St., at 2:45 o'clock Monday morning, was a surprise to the community in which the deceased had resided so long. True she had been ill some ten days or more, but this was not generally known.

Mrs. Strong was taken ill about two weeks since while asleep one night, her condition grew worse and she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Hymel, on Ballentine St., where she could receive the ministrations of a loving and dutiful daughter. [...] her spirit fortified with the last sacraments of the Catholic Church.

The funeral took place Monday afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. Father Pendergast, her pastor, officiated. The funeral was a large testament to the high esteem in which she was held by all who knew her.

Mrs. Strong was woman of strong personality, a good speaker, and thinker; a woman who was educated and endowed with an intellectual character that stamped her indelibly as a person of individuality. She was at the time of here death aged 69 years 9 months and 18 days, a native of St. Mary's parish, Louisiana. At an early age she came to Bay St. Louis on frequent visits, and finally located here permanently, some forty hears ago. Her maiden name was Louise Frere, coming from a very fine French family, whose decendents had made Louisiana their home. She was wedded to Charles M. Strong. In his day he was well known here. He was a man identified with the politics of the community and from time to time held several different offices under the patronage of the Federal Government. He was a justice of the peace here for years. He died in 1901.

The result of this marriage was six children. These are Mrs. Frank Hymel of Bay St Louis; Mrs. Charles Pecot of Franklinton, La.; and Mr. Charles, Albert and William all of who survived her. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Paul Pecot, of Charenton, Louisiana.

The Echo joins friends in extending the deepest sympathy to the bereaved ones.
