Cazeneuve, Ruth Lucille - February 14, 1991
Our Lady of the Gulf's "godmother of the bells," Ruth Lucille Cazeneuve, died Thursday in Pass Christian at the age of 98. A member of Hancock County's pioneer Cazeneuve family, she was a native and lifelong resident of Bay St. Louis, a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church and a member of the church's Altar Society.
Miss Cazeneuve's father, Joseph R. Cazeneuve, was one of the organizers of Hancock Bank, where she started to work when she was 16years old. She was an employee and officer of the bank in Bay St. Louis for 58 1/2 years, serving as bank vice president during part of her career and retiring at the age of 74. Princess Fahey, a longtime friend of Miss Cazeneuve, recalled her as someone whose aim in life was giving of herself to help others. At the age of 16, Miss Cazeneuve graduated form St. Joseph Academy.
Visitation for Miss Cazeneuve is today, 3 to 5:00 p.m., at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home, with recitation of the rosary at 4:00. A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Monday and go to Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church for Mass to be celebrated at 10:30. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
