Lewis, Corinne DeMontluzin Benedict - March 30, 1945
Mrs. Corinne deMontluzine Benedict Lewis died at New Orleans on Thursday, March 22 at 4:30 p.m., following a heart attack. Though in failing health for some time her death cams as a shock to her relatives there and to her brother here.
The body was brought to Bay St. Louis on Friday and the funeral was held Saturday morning from the Fahey Funeral Home at 11 a.m. The rites of the Catholic Church were conducted at the home and at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church by the Rev. Father Clark and interment was in the family tomb in Cedar Rest Cemetery.
She was the widow of the late A. M. Benedict and Dr. Hampden Lewis. Born in New Orleans, the daughter of the late Ludovic deMontluzin and Reine Helluy of France, she spent the greater part of her life here. She received her education at St. Joseph Academy and her higher education in Paris. She was prominently social in New Orleans where she made her debut.
She is survived by one brother Mr. Rene deMontluzin and several nephews and nieces, one of whom is Mrs. C.A. Sporl of New Orleans. A sister, Mrs. Jeanne deMontluzin De Lappe and three brothers Ferdinand, Alfred and Dr. Roger deMontluzin preceded her to the grave.
Mrs. Lewis was a part of the life of Bay St. Louis and the older generation remembers the deMontluzin family in the early days. "Mr. Rene" is the only living member and is operating the drug store founded by his father.
Serving as pallbearers for Mrs. Lewis were Edward Sporl Sr., Edward Sporl, Jr., Harold Sporl and Dr. Henry Piccaluga of New Orleans and Charles Zerr and Judge Leon Capdepon of Bay St. Louis.
