Johnston, James Thomas - February 5, 1935
James Thomas Johnston, better known as "Tommy" Johnston, native of Bay St. Louis, aged 49 years, was taken suddenly ill while out in the fishing boat at an early hour Tuesday morning, working for the local cannery. His companions were forced to return to shore and conveyed him to his home St. Francis and Easterbrook streets, where he received attention but to no avail. He passed away at 7:30 o'clock that morning.
Funeral took place the following afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, with services of the Catholic Church.
The victim of practically a sudden death is survived by a wife of second marriage, formerly Miss Ida Dolling, a sister of Mrs. Albert Favre, of this city. His first wife was Miss Lydia Sellier, originally from New Orleans and later of Bay St. Louis. Eight children survive, in addition to two brothers residing in New Orleans. He was a son of the late Edmond Johnston and Philomene Luc, of Bay St. Louis, both deceased.
"Tommy" Johnston was well known over the city and vicinity and the news of his unexpected passing was a shock to those who knew him and the community in general.
