Kerr, Charles "Donald" III - October 18, 2000
Charles "Donald" Kerr III, 88, of Waveland, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, in Bay St. Louis.
He was a native of New Orleans, LA, and a resident of Waveland. He was of the Episcopal faith, Mr. Kerr lost his leg as a child and devoted his life to the rehabilitation of disabled people. He was a member of the National Staff of the American Red Cross during and after World War II, and a rehab consultant to the Surgeon General of the U.S. Army and Navy. He helped organize and start the Keesler Institute of West Orange, NJ, and was Director of the National Institute for Amputee Rehab. He was the author and co-author of several books on amputee rehabilitation.
He was the recipient of the War Department Commendation for Service to injured servicemen in World War II in 1945, and he was named Man of the Year of Goodwill Industries in New Orleans, LA, in 1959.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Macdonald and Helen Marion Coppee Kerr, II; and two sisters, Frances Kerr Rhodes and Elizabeth Kerr Saunders.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Kerr of Waveland; a son, Charles Kerr IV of Albuquerque, NM; and a daughter, Theresa H. Neyland of Dallas, TX.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis is in charge of arrangements.
The family prefers that donations be sent to the American Red Cross, 508 Ulman Avenue, Bay St. Louis, MS 39520.
