Jonas Bates, 73 of Picayune, MS died Friday, February 24, 2006 in Picayune. A native of Bogue Chitto, MS he was owner and operator of Sonas Concrete Company and a member of Pilgrim Bound Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Pastors Aide Committee, a Past President of the Deacons Board, and a Deacon. He was also a member of the Square Deal Lodge #562B, and a Past City Councilman for eight years, where he served on the Personnel Committee. He is survived by a wife, Palmer Bates of Picayune; seven sons, John Bates of Jackson, MS, Mac Bel Sr., Charles Bates, Jr., Charles Bates, Sr., Jonas Bates, Carlos Bogan, and Donald Ray Hurt, all of Picayune; seven daughters, Jacqulyn McDonald, Peggy Magee, Annette Davis, all of Picayune, Teresa Hart of Toledo, OH, Venus Jones and Marilyn Sue Moore, both of Jackson, and Beverly McGilbery of St. Louis, MO; and two brothers, Leroy Bates of Brookhaven, MS and Eugene Bates of Jackson; and five sisters, Joanne Robinson of Greenwood, MS, Grace Blackwell, Daisy Fairman and Gladys Calhoun, all of Bogue Chitto, MS, and Diane Buie of Jackson; 45 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 4, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Pilgrim Bounds Baptist Church. Funeral services begin at 1:00 p.m.
