Obituary Record
Delaune, Elsnert - March 9, 1898
On Thursday evening at 8:30 o'clock death claimed for its own one of the fairest youths at St. Stanislaus. On Wednesday evening at 5 o'clock, Master Elsnert Delaune was taken with a congestive chill, and though every possible care was taken and means used to prevent a serious turn of affairs, everything proved unavailing. The deceased student was the son of Mr. W. Delaune, of Lockport, La., and had entered the preparatory course of the college last September. The parents were telegraphed for as soon as the sickness had assumed a serious phase, but owing to the suddeness with which death came they did not arrive in time for the end. Death is at all times a most cruel blow, but especially in a case such as this. Bright, studious, amiable and loving in character and disposition, a friend to all, our loving young friend leaves behind him a memory untarnished by any act of unkindness, and dear to his companions because of his exemplary life, and noble examples At the bedside were the faculty and the priest, and strengthened by all the rites of the church, he breathed his last.
