Halsey, Donald H. - December 5, 1999
Donald Hutchinson Halsey, 89, a retired advertising and public relations executive of New Orleans and Waveland died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999 in New Orleans.
Mr. Halsey was a native of Asheville, N. C. and a resident of New Oreans for over 75 years. He was also a longtime resident of Waveland.
He attended New Orleans Academy, was a graduate of Gilman School in Balatimore, Md., and was a 1932 graduate of Princeton University.
Mr. Halsey was past president of the Advertising Club of New Orleans and was a founding member of the United Way in 1946 having previousy served on the board of the Community Chest. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, International House, the Bureau of Governmental Research, Louisiana Civil Service League and the Rotary Club.
He served on the board of Louise S. McGehee School and was a former member of the Louisiana Club, the Pass Christian Yacht Club and the Lakeshore Club, and was an honorary member of the Boston Club and the Recess Club.
He was a member of the Metropolitcan Crime Commission, New Orleans Museum of Art and Friends of City Park. He served as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy during World War II and continued to be active in the Naval Reserve and was New Orleans Navy Day chairman.
Survivors include two daughters, Kate Adair Halsey Marsh of Marlbough, England and Elizabeth Halsey Register of New Orleans; a son, John Taylor Halsey of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a niece, Mrs. J. Hubert Willims of Pass Christian.
A memorial service was conducted Dec 9 at Trinity Episcopal Church in New Orleans. Private interment was in Metairie Cemetery.
Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
