Jacobi, Herman Msgr. - Unknown Date
The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Herman Jacobi, pastor of Annunciation Church, New Orleans, died Wednesday morning about 9:30 o'clock in Hotel Dieu following an illness of about two weeks.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 o'clock with a Pontifical Requiem Mass with Bishop Calliouett and Reverend Murphy officiating.
Burial will take place in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, New Orleans.
The body will lie in state in the Annunciation Church from 10 a. m. Thursday until 10 a. m. Friday.
Msgr. Jacobi, who was well known in Bay St. Louis was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis J. Jacobi, Sr., of this City. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Lionel Hebert, of Bridges, Texas; three brothers, Albert Jacobi; New Orleans and Louis J. Jr., and Lawrence Jacobi, Bay St. Louis; also survived by nieces and nephews.
Msgr. Jacobi suffered a severe heart condition in the spring of 1953. His recovery from the attack was considered miraculous. At the time of his death he was 48 years of age. Following his recuperation from the earlier attack, he spent considerable time in Bay St. Louis, before resuming his duties as Pastor of Annunciation Church.
He studied for the priesthood at St. Joseph Seminary, St. Benedict, Notre Dame Seminary, New Orleans, and was ordained in St. Louis Cathedral June 12, 1932.
He served as assistant pastor of St. Peters Church, Reserve, La., until 1935, attended Catholic University in Washington, D. C. from 1935 until 1937, receiving an M. S. Degree. He was head of the National Council of Catholic Charities in 1948 and 1949, and Vice-President of the Catholic Hospital Assn., of the United States and Canada.
Msgr. Jacobi also served as head of the Catholic Charities in New Orleans. In 1950 he was assigned the post of Pastor of the Annunciation Church.
