Archbishop Janssens dead!
What a flood of sorrow the announcement foretells. The death of this prince of the church is the final of a most beautiful life of self-sacrifice, devotion to its Maker, a light to humanity and the saver of souls, and his demise will be keenly felt in the church. Many are those whose hearts are deep in sorrow.
The history of his death is too well known to be dwelled upon here. The end was peaceful and the summons received in full resignation, typical of the beautiful life upon which these scenes marked the closing.
The remains of the distinguished prelate were laid "at rest" within the sanctuary crypt of St. Louis cathedral, New Orleans, on Wednesday morning with full religious, civic, and military honors.
