Kidd, William C. - March 28, 1997
William Caughey Kidd, 82, of Pass Christian, died Friday, March 28, 1997, in Gulfport.
Mr. Kidd was born July 5, 1914 in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from New Triner Township High School, Winnetka, Ill. in 1932 and graduated from Ogerlin College (Ohio) in 1936 going on to graduate from Harvard Business School in 1938. He worked for Arthur Anderson in Chicago until joining the Navy and completing flight school at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla. in 1941, then having served during WWII until 1945. In 1945, Mr. Kidd entered the U. S. Navy Reserves and later retired as commander with over 20 years of service. He joined S. C. Johnson Wax, Racine, Wis. from 1946-1965serving as treasurer and vice-president of Johnson Europe, Africa and Near East in 1865, he worked as president of Western Publishing Inc., Racine, Wis. until 1971. From 1971-76, Mr. Kidd served as head of Economic Development Department for the State of Wisconsin, Madison, Wis. and also as president for the state of Wisconsin Historical Society. He was a lifelong Boy Scouter and recipient of the Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope awards, as well as a member of the National Committee for Boy Scuts of America. He was founder and publisher of the Pass Christian Review. He was a member of the Somerset Club, Racine, Wis, Boston Club, New Orleans; Pass Christian Rotary Club and Pass Christian Yacht Club.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine L. Kidd of Pass Christian; two daughters, Candiss Waldram of London, England, and Susan Hughes of Panama City, Flo; a brother, Jack Kidd of Charlottesville, Va.; three grandsons and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Riemann Pass Christian Chapel. Burial was in Biloxi National Cemetery.
