Obituary Record
Nicholson, George - February 4, 1896
Mr. George Nicholson, one of the proprietors of the Picayune, died Tuesday, at his home in New Orleans, after a very brief illness; although he was 76 years old, he retained perfect health and youthful energy.
Mr. Nicholson embarked in the newspaper business 43 years ago, and with the growth of journalism in New Orleans, he kept pace and succeeded in reaching the heights. Few men were better acquainted with the great questions that necessarily came under his observation and to which he gave his deepest thoughts and closest attention.
Personally, Mr. Nicholson possessed that magnetism which endeared him to all with whom he came in contact. He was a true friend, a faithful public servant and his loss will not only be felt in New Orleans, but all over the Southern country where he was known and admired.
