The Covington County Historical & Genealogy society has obtained abstracts from an abstract company that has material from several counties in South Mississippi, Alabama & Florida. These were abstracts that were prepared in the late 1950's and 1960's for oil companies. The abstracts are copies of the originals (typed carbon copies). These are verbatim abstracts typed from the original records located at that time in the local courthouses. We have several abstracts pertaining to lands in Hancock County. The locations are where oil wells are now located or where oil exploration was conducted. These abstracts were donated to out society and we are maintaining the Covington County and Jefferson Davis County abstracts in our library. We were given permission at the time they were donated to be able to donate to various Historical societies in the various counties where we had abstracts. Would your society like to have those abstracts pertaining to Hancock County? If you are interested or need additional information, please let me know.
