Daily Crescent - Friday morning - August 2*+, i860 - p.2 col. 3 THE STORK AT SHIP ISLAND Special to the Nev Orleans "Crescent" Biloxi, Kiss. August 20, i860 Editor Crescent: You will oblige me by contradicting a rumor said to be current in Nev Orleans that the works at Ship Island had been destroyed and the force employed carried away by the late gale. The fort in course of construction was not damaged, nor is it sutnDosed it will be by any similar gale. The wharfs and plank roads leading to the works were carried away; one temporary building, having been undermined by waves, fell down; several chimneys were blown down. The force at the island during the night of the 117th and morning of the 12th gave all assistance in their power to the survivors from the steamer Young. The U. S. schooner Baker on the 13th brought over thirteen (13) persons from the island, seven (7) belonging to the steamer Young and five (5) to the yacht Randall capsized off the west end of Ship Island on the 13th. One of the crew of the Young died at Ship Island on the morning of the 13th. On the l^th the body of an unknown man was found by some of the employees on the east end of the island and handed over to the care of two of the crew of the steamer Anna who, it is believed, buried him. The steamer Anna was in search of the survivors of the steamer Young. Respectfully, FREDERICK E. PRIME First Lieutenant Engineers 00033
