From the Sea Coast Echo, October 8, 1892: Charles A. Butler and family, after spending the summer here at their home on the beach have returned to their home in New Orleans.
November 16, 1907: Chas. A. Butier Studio burned Nov. 16, 1907, 5 a.m. Conflagration originating from unknown causes destroyed a business portion of Bay St. Louis, including St. Joseph's Academy and Church of Our Lady of the Gulf. Losses will reach $250. The fire originated in the Bay Mercantile Co. building on the ground floor of the Opera House owned by John Osoinach. Buildings burned and damaged: Opera House, Clifton Hotel, Studio of Chas A Butler, Res and Bus of A Wineberg, St Joseph?s Academy, Church of Our Lady of the Gulf, Catholic Rectory, Planchet Building occupied by King's Daughters Library, H.S. Gillum Store, Thomas Reed Drug Store, Dr. Turner's Office, Three buildings owned by Mrs.. Planchet, Miss Josie Welch's News Stand, J.W. Watts' Machine shop and Thos. Evans' Drug Store. I think you have cards of most of these. I have a reference to ": Butler, the photographer, Bio-sketch 5 Sep. 1903". I will try and get a copy.
