Some 100 camping units are expected in mid-June. BY ELLIS CUEVAS Recalling a successful international camping rally in 1990 at Buccaneer State Park, the Mississippi ?Magnolia Bells? Telephone Pioneers family campers will sponsor a five-state camporee in Hancock County June 13-21. Jay Lagasse, Hancock Pioneers chairman, said, ?The impression with our hospitality in 1990 has enabled us to play host to this group of over 100 mobile units.? ?Buccaneer State Park is a great asset to our area. Estimates are that some $400,000 was added to our economy through the international Pioneers group, which had some 500 units,? he added. The group this June Should generate more than $100,000, he projected, as more outside activities are planned. The Magnolia Bells selected Buccaneer because of the accommodations and the encouragement from the board of supervisors and Bay St. Louis and Waveland officials. A contract was signed by the Magnolia Bells and Greg Smith. Buccaneer State Park manager. Assisting with the camporee will be city and county officials, chamber of commerce members, Retired Senior Volunteer Program participants (RSVP), the Hancock County Welcome Center and local businesses and organizations. Plans are underway for special activities for the Pioneers? stay in the area, with ample time, reserved for them to pat- ronize local restaurants and businesses. Lagasse said the motto of the Telephone Pioneers family campers is, ?To leave an area cleaner than when they arrived.?
