I)r. Mead was the son of Artemas and Abigail (Richardson) Mead, and was lxjrii in Portland, Maine, lt> July, 18-12. He resided with his parents in Woburn, Mass., when lie entered college, and was prepared at the. Woburn High School. He enlisted with the Mth Regimeut Mass. Volunteers and was in service from 18i?2 to 18?>5. lie was graduated (rj:trn ordinem) in 188f>. He pursued medical studies with I*.P. Gage, M. D., of Lowell and received the degreoof M, I), from Harvard University in 18(59. He practiced in Pearlington, Hancock Co., Mississippi till his last illness. He was attacked with inllammation of the liver 1 Dec. 1890. Later an abscess formed and he submitted to a surgical operation.
He married Amelia K. Mead of Gainesville, Miss., 23 Oct. 1880, who, with two children, Abigail, aged 9, and John Artemas, aged fi, survives him.
His remains rest in Woburn, Mass.
