5) also enclosed is an undated newspaper clipping (ca. 1968) stating the Oblate Fathers were selling the property and moving to Nebraska. That is about all I know of the place. I have heard stories told to me by my grandfather (I was 12 when he passed away), and by my aunts?older sisters to my mother. Stories like him sailing alone across the bay as a very young boy, stories of how he and his father survived the Civil War, and the like. I was always told that the home was built ?on an Indian mound,? but I suspect it was simply built on a large Indian midden. Also, William Alexander Whitfield did visit S. Louisiana in about 1902, and spent considerable time with his son, so my grandmother picked up much information that she passed along. Incidently, B. K. Whitfield was 41 when he married my grandmother, Yvonne Mouton, a young Cajun girl of 17. She passed away in 1966, so I heard stories from her as well. I shall await your reply, Malcolm L. Comeaux Professor Emeritus
