Mr. Ken Murray December 8, 1976 Page Two 3) What plans do you have for our annexed areas? The first would he to provide adequate water and fire protection systems to be followed by extensions to our existing sewer system. 4) What long range plans would you suggest for downtown Bay St. Louis and Main Street, Highway 90 to Beach Boulevard? At the present time there are no funds in sight for an exotic plan for downtown, however, I would like to see a parking area on the beach side across from Main Street be developed as well as the widening of Main Street completed from Dunbar to Beach Boulevard provided that the first stage from Highway 90 to Dunbar could be completed. 5) What is your opinion of the DuPont plant proposed location in our area? I have somewhat mixed reactions because I enjoy the quality of life available here, however, it is my belief that there are adequate safeguards to the disposal of waste by DuPont to encourage its growth and development. It is my belief that should DuPont not continue to build and locate in this area, then the State of Mississippi would find it most difficult to promote other industries in the state if DuPont, one of the major corporations of this country, were unable to remain in this area. I might add that for young people, industry means jobs and jobs mean the ability to remain in your home area without having to leave Bay St. Louis in order to maintain a good standard of living. 6) Do you think our city taxes are fair and equal? I think in most instances that the taxes in Bay St. Louis are generally fair and equal, but I also know of glaring inequities which probably have resulted through the years because of political pressures. The best solution for equalization of taxes would be to hire an outside firm who specializes in real estate appraisals and have the City of Bay St. Louis re-appraised. The difficulty with this solution is that properly done it would cost in the $60,000 to $75,000 range and is probably beyond the means of the city at this time.
