The Hancock County Food Pantry is in need of used children’s books, coloring books and Crayolas.
The Food Pantry, in addition to providing food, also provides reading materials and coloring books for deserving youngsters.
Persons with books they no longer need for children of any age can leave them at the Bookends Bookstore, Highway 90, Bay St. Louis, for the Food Pantry.
We know the people running the Food Pantry will make sure they are put to good use.
The help from our citizens for those less fortunate is always appreciated.
Hancock Food Pantry serves emergency food
■	BAY ST. LOUIS — Hancock County Food Pantry reports in its first three years 8,420 people have received emergency food rations, most of them hungry children.
During the period, requests from 2,392 families were answered by the volunteer organization which was founded on May 19, 1986
Food Pantry coordinates the collection, storage and distribution of foodstuffs from county churches and other charitable and public service organizations.
The operation is housed in the old county jail building behind the Courthouse on Court Street in Bay St. Louis.
Managers include Ina Piazza. Evelyn Johnson, Aileen Sauzer and Wilma McMahon.
Persons in need should secure a referral slip from the Hancock County Welfare Department.
It is amazing to hear the number of families who have been served by the Hancock County Food Pantry in three years of operation.
The Food Pantry celebrated their third anniversary on May 18, and they have helped 2,392 families. The families included some 8,240 people.
There are so many people who have made this community-involved venture a success, and it really takes many folks when you consider the areas of help needed for the Food Pantry to operate.
The organizers, the workers from the area churches, the students of our schools, merchants, elected officials, trustees, clubs, organizations and individuals have all contributed their time and energy to make this very worthwhile venture a success.
We wish the Food Pantry further success in the years ahead and thank each and everyone for their help.
