PREFACE
Grandpa, what was your father's name? Payton. Well, what was his father's name? Well son, his name was James. He was my grandpa. Son our family goes way back. Our ancestors came here from North Carolina, near Wilmington. With such questions from me to ray grandfather, Hugh Lee, was the way I first became interested in our Lee family history.
With clues from my grandfather, I began my search. I first started searching about 1965. Through the past twenty one years I put my pencil down as I grew disinterested. But then again I would pick it up and go forward again until at last I have reached a point that I have enough

information to put in print.
There should be a reason for publishing any book. My reason for this publication is to preserve our ancestral history as best I can. Also, I want to provide a medium through which others can enlarge upon in the future.
As with any genealogical research, this should be viewed as an incomplete work. It can be added to in many ways.
No doubt, there will be many misspelled names, names left out, and names in the wrong places. For all mistakes I do sincerely apologize.
The information that I here furnish has been gleaned from many sourdes. It has been my practice to try to find a key person in any given family and get as much information as possible.
Many months have gone into the preparation of this publication. It is my hope that you have as much enjoyment in possessing these contents and browsing in them as I have had in visiting, gathering, and preparing this book.
