In Hancock Co. Deed Book B, p. 386, Amos Lott, Solomon’s son, sold land to William Seal and Jacob Seal on May 19,1832. This deed was “re-recorded” on Jan. 21, 1854 after fire destroyed the original Courthouse records in 1853. The land was that part of Hancock Co. (now Pearl River Co.) legally described as Section 30, Township 5, Range 18 West and Section 3, Township 6, Range 18 West on the Pearl River next to the Simon Favre claim. The most interesting thing about this old deed is that Amos Lott was selling to his nephews, Jacob and William Seal “the undivided seven-ninth of all that piece, parcel, or tract of land confirmed to Solomon Lott, late of said county, Deed”.
This means that he had “at least” nine heirs. He could have had more, but were intentionally left out of the estate, possibly died or some heirs simply could not be located. If he had a Will, we have found no evidence that there was ever one. If he had r living children and he died intestate (without making a Will) his assets would have gone in equal shares to his children or heirs of any deceased children. What the “nine” tells us is that old Solomon Lott had nine children living, or deceased children with heirs at the time of his death in or around 1822. While we believe he had nine living children in 1822, we believe Solomon had at least one more son to reach maturity, and he died before 1822 without children of his own. This son would be Robert Lott who will be discussed later.
Before we get further into our Solomon Lott, we would like to discuss a little about why we feel his mother was Elizabeth Joyner, wife of John Lott c.1720. After studying the sources “Joyners of Southampton by Ulysses P. Joyner, Jr., 1975”, and “Joiner-Joyner: A History of our Ancestors by Ransey Joiner, Jr., 1974”, the year of birth for Elizabeth Joyner is placed at around 1720. She is much more likely the one who married John Lott c. 1720 as opposed to his father, John Lott c. 1700. We have estimated that Elizabeth Joyner was bom c.1720 because this is more in line with her husband's approximate year of birth and the birth of her first child, Solomon Lott c.1738. Mr. Ransey Joiner, Jr. assigns her year of birth as “1724”, but he gives no reference or reason for his conclusion. This “1724” date by Ransey Joiner seems to be the “original source” for Elizabeth Joyner's year of birth that is often cited. Various sources place her father, John Joyner, as bom c. 1690. If accurate, Elizabeth would have had to be bom c. 1710, or even later if she was not the first bora child. Her age is very important if we are ever going to establish our correct ancestry.
We will now outline her linage based on the above two sources. Elizabeth Joyner was bom around 1720 to:
John Joyner - bora around 1690 in Nottaway Parish, Isle of Wight Co., Virginia
and died September 2,1748, Isle of Wight Co., VA, son of Bridgeman Joyner and Ann Mayo. He married Elizabeth Brown,daughter of John Brown, around 1718 in Virginia.
Bridgeman Joyner—bom around 1665 in Isle of Wight Co., VA and died 1719 in Isle of Wight Co., VA, son of Thomas Joyner and Elizabeth Robins. He married Ann Mayo.
Thomas Joyner - bom 1619 in Bere Regis, Dorset, England. He sailed from
London on the ship “Dorset” for “Bermudoes” in 1635 at age 16. He
