BAY WAVELAND GARDEN CLUB HISTORY FOR THE 1972-73 YEAR. CARRYING OUT OUR THEME FOR THE 1972-73 CLUB YEAR "NATURE SPEAKS IF WE LISTEN" , ONE OF THE OUTSTANDING HIGHLIGHTS WAS THE EXCELLENT AND INTERESTING PROGRAMS GIVEN BY THE OUTSTANDING SPEAKERS WHO CAME TO US EACH MONTH TO TELL OF THE GOD GIVEN BEAUTY WHICH SURROUNDS US. LAST OCTOBER 19th WE HOSTED THE SPANISH TRAIL MEETING, ENTERTAINING SOME 250 GUESTS AT VIRGINIA HALL OF CHRIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH IN BAY ST.LOUIS, AND SPEAKING OF AWARDS, THE BAY WAVELAND GARDEN CLUB WON A NATIONAL YOUTH ACTIVITY AWARD FOR SPONSORING THREE JUNIOR GARDEN CLUBS, AND CAKE OUT IN SECOND PLACE FOR OUR PRESIDENT'S REPORT. TO CONTINUE ON WITH THE JUNIORS, THE BUSY BEES AND THE MARIGOLDS WON THE TRI COLOR - TO THE BUSY BEES WENT AWARDS FOR ARBOR DAY ACTIVITIES, THEIR BIRD PROGRAM, FLOWER fflOW PARTICIPATION, YEAR BOOK, SCRAP BOOK AND CLUB PROJECT. THE MERRYGOLDS WON FOR ARBOR DAY ACTIVITIES, THEIR BIRD PROGRAM AND FLOWER SHOW PARTICIPATION. THE TICER LILLIES NARRATED AND DEMONSTRATED WITH SLIDES THE ACTIVITIES OF THE SUMMER HORTICULTURE SEMINAR THEY ATTENDED, SPONSORED BY THE BAY WAVELAND GARDEN CLUB. THE LADIES OF CHRIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH SERVED A DELICIOUS LUNCH AND WE CLOSED THE DAY WITH A LOVELY TEA AT OUR GARDEN CENTER. - IT WAS A GRAND DAY FOR US ALL, AND ESPECIALLY FOR THE JUNIORS. A SUCCESSFUL WORKSHOP WAS HELD OH OCTOBER 31st, DEMONSTRATING THE MAKING OF ARTISTIC ARRANGEMENTS IN ORDER TO UPGRADE THE QUALITY OF CU5» FLOWER SHOWS. ON NOVEMBER 11th OUR WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE HELD A NOVEL FLEA MARKET AT THE GARDEN CENTER. MEMBERS CONTRIBUTED THE SALE ITEMS AND THEY AND THEIR GUESTS PURCHASED THE INTERESTING AND USEFUL ARTICLES. IT WAS A REAL FUN AFFAIR, AS WELL AS BEING A VERY PROFITABLE OPERATION. IN LINE WITH THE MANY REQUESTS TO "DO IT AGAIN", ANOTHER EVENT OF THIS KIND IS BEING PLANNED. THE CHRISTMAS PROGRAM WAS MOST DELIGHTFUL.X OUR TALENTED MEMBERS NARRATED A TYPICAL CELEBRATION IN ENGLAND, FRANCE AND GERMANY^ FOLLOWED BY A DESCRIPTION OF AN OLD FASHIONED AMERICAN CHRISTMAS. MRS. SANTA CLAUS PRESENTED GIFTS OF POT PLANTS CONTRIBUTED BY MEMBERS, WHICH WERE LATER GIVM TO OUR SENIOR CITIZENS FOR THEIR ENJOYMENT. THIS IS A PART OF THE GARDEN THERAPY PROGRAM - ADDITIONALY A SMALL MONITARY GIFT WAS MADE FOR THE WORLD GARDENING PROGRAM. WE HELD A SUCCESSFUL CHRISTMAS LIGHTING CONTEST, ENCOURAGING OUR CITIZENS TO DECORATE AND BRIGHTEN UP THEIR HOMES AND GROUNDS FOR THE HOLIDAYS. IN JANUARY OUR MEMBERSHIP PARTICIPATED IN TWO CONTESTS, ONE HELD BY THE ROTARY CLUB TO HONOR THE OUTSTANDING CITIZEN OF OUR COMMUNITY, WHICH WAS WON BY ONE OF OUR MEMBERS, MRS. ELDA DUKE. A BEAUTIFUL ACTIVIST CONTEST, SP0N3C12DD BY THE GARDEN CLUBS OF MISSISSIPPI WAS ’BON BY THE MOTHER OF ONE OF OUR MEMBERS, MRS. THEO TUDURY. WE ARE SO PROUD OF THESE OUTSTANDING LADIES, WHOSE CHARITABLE AND CIVIC ACTIVITIES ARE LEGION IN THE HANCOCK COUNTY COMMUNITY.
