McLeod Park
Albert McLeod was a settler and prominent land owner in Hancock County, having moved to the area from South Carolins. He married Virginia Haas. He operated a turpentine still and general store on the west corner of Jourdan River and Hwy. 603. On the east side of Hwy. 603 was living quarters for families employed by the family. The still was destroyed by fire in 1942.
The Haas family pre-dates the Civil War era. Mrs. McLeod was known to everyone as Aunt Gin. A parcel of acreage off Texas Flat Road was dedicated to Albert and Virginia. It is known as McLeod Park.
