||	There arc at present many industries located along	the coast besides the
earlier mentioned historic tourist and fishing industry with	their large importance
and employment. The tourist industry can only continue to expand as more and more people around America.become aware that this area is truly one of the loveliest in the country.
The annually increasing amount of tonnage going through the Gulf porte
each year can only increase tho importance of the area to the import - export
business resulting in increasing amounts of warehouse development, rail, truck
and air traffic and the establishment of certain industries which traditionally find
it advantageous to locate near water, change of transportation junctures such as
a port, or industries that process goods immediately upon arrival at a port for
further shipment as finished goods into the hinterland.
j	The area is also gaining a great deal of popularity as	a wonderful area for
i
retirement due to its fine climate and wonderful activities available such as fiching, boating, swimming, golf (thereare six championship courses in Harrison County alone), tennis and other outdoor activities.
It might be well to make mention at this time of the wonderful cHmate of |	the Gulf Ccact. The area enjoys temperate semi-tropical weather with mild win-
|
f*	terc and cool summers resulting from tho year round Gulf breeze.
The coastal belt around Harrison County enjoys	a nearly uniform climate.
|	Ths average rainfall of 58 inches provides an abundant	water supply that is as yet
j	untapped. Average daytime summer temperatures are	lese than 90° and winter of
j	23° or lower is experienced for only a limited period.	The average time span of
tho winter temperatures is about 64 days, generally occurring from about December 9th to February 11th. Daytime temperatures in the winter seldom remain low
