8 ATTRACTIONS
JOHN C. STENNIS SPACE CENTER
The Stennis Space Center is near Bay St Louis off Interstate 10 on Hwy 607 North. Visitors can view indoor and outdoor exhibits representing the work of the Space Center with space, ocean and earth, live demonstrations, movies and a panoramic view from the 90-foot Space Tower.
Open daily from 9am - 5pm. No admission fee.
WALKING TRAIL
Located on Hwy 90 by the Hancock Medical Center, the newly finished Walking Track is a half-mile track designed to improve health and fitness by the use of thirteen pieces of exercise apparatus. The area is extremely popular and offers safe exercise in a natural environment.
ST AUGUSTINE'S SEMINARY
Between Hwy 90 and Ulman Ave, is the seminary where America*s first Negro Bishop prepared for the pristhood and was consecrated as Bishop Joseph Howze in 1953.
WAYSIDE SHRINE OF THE SACRED HEART
Next to the entrance to St Augustine*s Seminary on Hwy 90 E, is the shrine of the Sacred Heart. This shrine was erected by the Layman*s Retreat League and Friends of St Augustine*s Seminary.
It was dedicated to the community Dan 16, 1955.
The fourteen Stations of the Cross form a large arc behind the shrine in a beautiful garden atmosphere. Three of the marble plaques on the stations were damaged during Hurricane Camille in 1969.
BUCCANEER Sl«i*E PARK
Located on the western end of Waveland, the park covers 400 acres of land with large moss-draped oaks, marshlands and a mile long sand beach. Also known as Jackson's Ridge, the park site was used in 1814 as a base of military operations by Andrew Jackson during ,the Battle of New Orleans. The park offers 'camping pads with full hook-ups, primitive camping, nature trails, tennis, a wave activated swimming pool, picnic area and fishing in the Gulf.
McLEOD WATER PARK
Located 2 miles north of 1-10 off Hwy 603, this beautiful park offers camping with hookups under giant moss-laden oaks, primitive camping on the banks of the Jourdan River, boat launch, two fishing piers, and nature trails. Here the woods abound with southern magnolias, dogwoods, and redbuds with many species of birds and animals making the woods their home. Call (601) 467-1894.
HONEY ISLAND SWAMP
Take 1-10 to Hwy 59 North to Honey Island Swamp Exit or from the Stennis Space Center, continue on Hwy 607 North to Hwy 11 in Louisiana. Turn left on first intersecting road and proceed to the parking area. The Nature Trail starts from near the northeast corner of the clearing and terminates at the southeast corner. Besides the Nature Trail, there are fishing areas and boat launches. Guided boat tours are offered twice daily deep into the primitive wilderness.
