The Frye Family Files I found out today (Jan. 4 1995) that the Fry family on the
1870 Hancock Cencus is our family. Most of the names were
mispelled but that seems to be normal in records kept so soon
after the Civil War. I found the following information in the
Rester Family Records.
Elder Andrew Jackson Fry was a Baptist Preacher and a Blacksmith. He was the son of Charles and Winnie Fry and was raised in Greene County MS, where the Town of Lucedale is now located.
It was there that he married Deborah Gardner, the daughter of John Gardner, on Jan. 5 1853. After their marriage they moved to the Progress Community, which was Hancock County at that time and now is in Pearl River County. They had four children. Charles F. Annie Deborah Fry -m- James "JIM" Rester on Apr. 29 1884(Marion) Annie and Jim moved to Leetown and raised a family there.
Frederick Rester is Jim Rester's Uncle. Jim's Father, William Rester, and Frederick are brothers.
While reading the minutes of the Hancock County Police Court meeting of the April term of 1866, I found the name A. J. Fry listed as giving a right of way for the Bouy Road. As described in the minutes the road was being built in sections. In each section a local farmer was appointed to oversee the road which stretched from somewhere in the Leetown area to the Marion County line.
