Leetown, Mississippi
If you look on a common road map, you will not find the little community of Leetown, Mississippi. But it is here and you and I know where it Is so that is what counts.
Leetown is named after the first early Lees that settled here.
Who were they? Where did they come from? Of what relation am I to those early Lees? In this little book I have tried to answer such questions as those above.
My grandfather, Hugh Henry Lee, is the oldest living Lee I know.
As a matter of fact, at this writing, February 8, 1986, grandpa Hugh is 97 years, 3 months, and 2 days old. He has in fact out-lived all his known kin. May he enjoy many more happy years.
On the property, that grandpa Hugh owns, there is a stand of crape myrtle bushes. Near these bushes, there is a small mound of dirt. To the casual observer, these might not mean much. But they mark the site of our original ancestor?s, Peyton Lee, first home place. The bushes are from original stock planted probably over 135 years ago by Peyton and his wife, Annie. The mound of dirt is from the old chimney that served the original log house in which they lived. The old nearby spring from which they got their fresh water supply still runs. As a matter of fact, the spring was one of the primary reasons they built just where they did.
In this book, it is my purpose to give as much historical information about Peyton Lee and his ancestors as I have been able to gather.
I shall furnish information on Peyton's father, .James Lee, and on his grandfather, Bryant Lee, and on his great grandfather, David Lee.
